Welcome !
It is perhaps the most spectacular and amazing trek in the world. The long climb up to the Everest region of Nepal is a hard, physically-demanding slog. Yet nowhere in the world quite compares with it. Towering Himalayan peaks with their brilliant white peaks have attracted many trekkers to this region of Nepal - known locally by the Sherpas as the Khumbu Himalaya - and it's crowning glory is the dazzling heights of Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth.
I originally wrote this online guidebook in 2008, after living for one year in Namche Bazaar where I was working as a freelance journalist and photojournalist. It is as comprehensive as ones you will find in print and there is now an eBook edition available.
Though whether you are just researching the possibility of a trip or looking for a flight to Lukla in Kathmandu, you'll find this free online travel guide to the Everest
region a useful resource, crammed full of useful and practical information. Tips like what o do about dry skin (I had eczema while on my trek).
This eGuide is intended to give more detailed info on the Everest trek only. I have merely provided a sketch of the Kathmandu valley, as I assume many will have a complete guidebook on Nepal with them already.
This guide is only compatible with Adobe Flash & Java-enabled browsers. You can download the free plugin from the Adobe web site. The main trekking guidebook content can be accessed by using the menu above. Happily though, it does work on mobile phones with larger screens including the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad (and also on Android phones) thanks to Weebly's mobile site facility.
Please note this eGuide is now fully complete in terms of the travel info. I am just adding the final pages (in the history and contexts section) I hope to have the eBook version available in a few week's time. The eBook edition of this guide is not free like this site - though it does contain slightly more information and is more up to date than the online edition here.
